Washing will help remove scabs and help with the healing process. We will recommend you a baby shampoo and a oil for hair wash procedure.

3 days after hair transplant surgery you should start post-transplant hair washing process and follow the instructions once a day for 15 days.

If all scabs are removed after 15 days feel free to use baby shampoo for washing and you can start to rub in the shampoo gently with your fingertips.

1 Month after the operation you will have passed the risky stage; you can go back to your normal life and use towels as well. Hair must be washed everyday for 1 month.

Things You Need

Baby Shampoo

First week

After 2 days of hair transplant surgery these procedures are to be followed.

Transplanted Area:-

First you need to make foam by combining baby shampoo and water in a bowl.

Apply the foam on the transplanted area or recipient area gently. Then rinse out after 2-5 minutes.

Follow this procedure for 6 days on transplanted area or recipient area.

Donor Area:- Apply the foam you made in the above step on the donor area and rub gently by fingertips.

Follow this procedure for 6 days on donor area.

Second Week

These procedures are to be followed after 1 week.

Transplanted Area:- First make same foam by combining baby shampoo and water in the bowl. Apply the foam on the transplanted area or recipient area and start rubbing gently for 1-2 minutes only.

Make sure you don’t rub harshly.

You will now notice some hair falling with some kind of tissue. You don’t need to worry about that.

This is because the scabs are getting out from the scalp. This process will take around 3-4 days to make scalp completely free of scabs.

Donor Area:- Apply the foam you made in the above step on the donor area and rub gently by fingertips.

So this is the process of removing scabs from the scalp. Make sure all the scabs are removed within 18 days. Because, after 18 days it may harm the roots.

Hair Transplant : Advantages, Cost, Results And Side Effects

What is hair transplant surgery?

A hair transplant surgery is a medical procedure where a dermatological surgeon plug out the hair graft from the donor area and implant it to a bald area(also called recipient area) of the scalp. The surgeon usually pick hair from the back or side of the head to the front or top of the head as those hair are strong and permanent usually.
Hair transplant surgery typically occurs in a hair transplant clinic under local anesthesia.

Male Pattern baldness or Androgenic alopecia is responsible for the majority of hair loss. This comes down to genetics. The remaining cases are due to a variety of factors, including:
  • diet
  • stress
  • illness
  • hormonal imbalance
  • medications

Types of Hair Transplant surgery:

Two main techniques are used to obtain follicles for transplantation: FUT and FUE.

Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT):- The surgeon will use a scalpel to cut out a strip of scalp skin from the back of the head.

The incision is typically several inches long. This is then closed with stitches by the plastic surgeon.

The plastic surgeon next separates the removed portion of the scalp into small sections using a magnifying lens and sharp surgical knife. When implanted, these sections will help achieve natural-looking hair growth.

In Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE):- The hair follicles are extracted directly from the back of the head through hundreds to thousands of tiny punch incisions.

The surgeon makes tiny holes with a needle in the area of your scalp also called recipient area. They gently place hair follicle in these holes.
During one treatment session, a surgeon may transplant hundreds or even thousands of grafts. Maximum no. of grafts a hair transplant doctor can place in one session are 1500-2500.
After, the graft, gauze, or bandages will cover your scalp for a day in the case of FUE.
A hair transplant session can take four hours or more. Your stitches will be removed about 10 days after surgery in the case of FUT.

Who are the right candidates for hair transplant surgery?

A hair transplant surgery can improve your appearance and self-confidence by creating a new hairline and covering the baldness.

Good candidates for a hair transplant include:

Men with male pattern baldness

Women with thinning hair

Anyone who has lost some hair from a burn or scalp injury

Hair transplant isn’t a good option for:

– Women with a widespread pattern of hair loss throughout the scalp.
– People who don’t have enough “donor” hair sites from which to remove hair for transplant.
– People who form keloid scars (thick, fibrous scars) after injury or surgery.
– People whose hair loss is due to a medication such as chemotherapy.

What happens during a hair transplant?

Before the surgery, some medical tests are taken to ensure that patient is ready for hair transplant or not.
If the patient is fully eligible, the doctor draws a hairline and mark the donor area and recipient area and cleans the scalp.
After thoroughly cleaning your scalp, a hair transplant doctor uses a small needle to numb an area of your head with local anaesthesia.
Two main techniques are used to obtain follicles for transplantation: FUT and FUE.

Follicular unit transplantation (FUT):

The surgeon will use a scalpel to cut out a strip of scalp skin from the back of the head also called donor area. The incision is typically several inches long.
This is then closed with stitches.
The hair transplant surgeon next separates the removed portion of scalp into small sections using a magnifying lens and sharp surgical knife. Then hair grafts are extracted from the strip.
Then the sorting of grafts is done. Then the grafts are implanted on the recipient area or bald area with implanters.
In follicular unit extraction (FUE) the hair follicles are individually taken out from the back of the head or donor area by a punch. These grafts are sorted like in FUT.
Then these grafts are implanted on the recipient area or bald area.
What happens after a hair transplant?

Your scalp may be sore, and you may need to take medications following hair transplant surgery, such as:

-pain medication
-antibiotics to reduce your risk of infection
-anti-inflammatory medications to keep swelling down
-Most people can return to work several days after surgery.

It’s normal for the transplanted hair to fall out two to three weeks after the procedure it is called shedding phase. This makes way for new hair growth. Most people will see some amount of new hair growth 8 to 12 months after surgery.

Many doctors prescribe minoxidil or the hair growth medication finasteride to improve hair regrowth and biotin tablets. These medications also help slow or stop future hair loss.

Side effects of hair transplant surgery?

Side effects from a hair transplant are usually minor and clear up within a few weeks.
They can include:
  1. bleeding during the surgery.
  2. infection by the instruments.
  3. swelling of the scalp which is very normal.
  4. bruising around the eyes.
  5. a crust also called blood clots that forms on the areas of the scalp where hair was removed or implanted.
  6. numbness or lack of sensation on the treated areas of the scalp.
  7. Itching
  8. shock loss, or sudden but typically temporary loss of the transplanted hair
    unnatural-looking tufts of hair.

What can you expect after hair transplant?

People who’ve had a hair transplant will continue to grow hair in the transplanted areas of the scalp even you take a hair cut.
The new hair may appear more or less dense depending on:
  • scalp laxity, or how loose your scalp skin is
  • the density of follicles in the transplanted zone
  • hair calibre or quality hair curl

If you don’t take medication (such as minoxidil or finasteride) or undergo a low level of laser therapy, you may continue to experience loss of existing hair of your scalp.
